A Reflection from Our Board Member, Kirsty MacGregor
“It’s 20 years since much-loved teacher Firooza Razvi first came to Scotland. Serendipity played its part when Annamaria Sacco of Yoga Stable, Edinburgh attended Firooza’s Sunday class in Mumbai in 2004 and invited her to teach in Edinburgh the following year. It was a leap of faith—Firooza had never travelled outside India, her daughter Rubina had just finished exams, and she had only just opened an email account!
In May 2005, mother and daughter flew to the UK and arrived in Edinburgh to a warm welcome. A weekend of classes at Edinburgh Academy and an invitation from Elaine Pidgeon to teach at the Iyengar Yoga Centre marked the beginning of a cherished relationship. Firooza returned year after year to Scotland to teach many memorable retreats in Lower Largo organised by Annamaria.
Now, 20 years on, Firooza is set for another first—her first time teaching in Greece. In September 2025, she will lead a retreat on the stunning island of Paros at the Okreblue Yoga Centre. With her students now spread across Europe, the US and South Africa, she hopes this will be a special gathering place for all. She’s looking forward to bathing in the Aegean sea, Greek sunshine & culture, and a new adventure. Will you join her?”
